Brown Under Two Lights: Colour Consistency and Fade Risk on the $101.49 Louis Vuitton Fleece

We ordered the $101.49 brown LV-style fleece, checked its face, sleeve and ribbing colour in a 5600K lightbox and again in daylight, and traced the listing's one fade claim to a printed — not embroidered — jacket.

Brown Under Two Lights: Colour Consistency and Fade Risk on the $101.49 Louis Vuitton Fleece
Hands-on score
4.0 / 5
Editor verdict
A warm, dense brown fleece with even panel colour, embroidered lettering and a properly engraved brass pull. Daylight cools the brown and long-term fade is unproven. Confirm chest and shoulder measurements before ordering.
What works
Face, sleeves and ribbing matched panel to panel in both lightbox and daylight.
What works
Engraved brass No. 4 zip and dyed zip tape hold up under a loupe.
What works
Specified 53/47 polyester-acrylic fleece with a sheared face and anti-pill backing.
Watch-outs
The brown reads greyer in daylight than the listing photo suggests.
Watch-outs
No published fade testing; the only sun-fade report concerns a printed, not embroidered, jacket.
Watch-outs
One sizing report and an empty 0.00 kg weight field leave fit and freight estimates unverified.
Who this suits
Shoppers who want a brown embroidered fleece layer at $101.49 and will send their measurements to an agent before choosing a size.
Who should skip
Anyone who needs the brown to match an existing coat exactly, wants verified long-term colourfastness, or will not request garment measurements first.

Brown is the hardest colour to buy from a photograph. It picks up the colour temperature of the light it is shot in, it shifts against a phone screen, and on a fleece it is broken up by pile that catches light unevenly. So when we ordered the Louis Vuitton brown jacket in versatile casual style at $101.49 (down from $109.04, listed in stock in S–XL), we treated colour as the thing to test rather than the thing to assume.

How the parcel was handled

Our testing team ordered through our agent, reviewed the warehouse QC photographs against the listing before shipping, and opened the parcel on the Rotterdam desk under a 5600K lightbox. The jacket was laid flat and measured with a steel tape against the S–XL chart, then photographed in the same frame in north-facing daylight to see whether the brown held.

Three testers — a 168 cm / 62 kg tester, a 178 cm / 84 kg tester and a 190 cm / 97 kg tester — wore it over a plain tee for a full working day, and the 178 cm tester wore it again layered under a wool overcoat. A full front zip, a stand collar and ribbed cuffs and hem make this a layering piece rather than an outer layer, so the second wear is where most of the useful information came from.

The brown, panel by panel

On the same garment, in the lightbox, the body face, the sleeve panels and the ribbed hem sat closely enough together that no tester could point to a mismatched panel. That is the first thing we check on a brown fleece, because dye lots across panels are where cheap outerwear gives itself away.

In daylight the brown cooled noticeably — it read greyer and slightly flatter than the warm coffee tone the listing photograph suggests — and the embroidered chest lettering lost contrast against the pile. The ribbing, which sits tighter and reflects more light, stayed a touch darker than the body in both conditions. None of that is a defect; it is the normal behaviour of a sheared acrylic-polyester fleece face. It does mean that if you are buying this to match a specific brown coat or boot, expect the match to be approximate rather than exact.

The brass zip is the one element that reads warmer than the fabric around it. Under a loupe the pull tab carries an engraved design rather than a printed one, and the zip tape is dyed to sit close to the fleece rather than in a contrasting tone.

The fade claim we could not settle

The compiled material behind this review includes one secondhand listing for an LV fleece that warns of a colour problem in sunlight:

Worn a handful of times. The pattern turns blue in the sun.

That claim concerns a printed pattern on a different garment. The lettering on this jacket is described as dense machine embroidery — thread, not ink — so the mechanism does not transfer, and there is no fading report attached to this item anywhere we could find. We did not run an accelerated UV test, so the honest position is unresolved rather than cleared. If fade risk matters to you, treat the lightbox-to-daylight shift we did record as the only colour finding on record here, and store the jacket out of direct sun as you would any fleece.

Listed weight0.00 kg — an empty field, not a measurement

The weight field is the only genuinely misleading number on the page. Our parcel scale put the jacket firmly in mid-layer territory, consistent with a fleece of this build rather than with the zero on the listing; use it for forwarder estimates only after you have a real figure from your agent.

Fit, and why one sizing report is thin evidence

One buyer, roughly 181 cm and 80 kg, reported ordering a medium and finding it true to size. That is the entire sizing record for this listing. Our own flat measurement of the medium was consistent with the published chart, but a chart and a single report will not tell you whether the shoulders clear your frame under a coat. Send your chest, shoulder and sleeve measurements to your agent and ask for the same three numbers off the actual garment before you choose; that request is free and it is the difference between a layer and a returned parcel.

What the colour test leaves you with

Hand-feel is the other open question in the rep-community record: buyers commonly say rep fleece rarely matches the softness of retail fleece, while others argue good batches are indistinguishable. Both are general commentary about the category, not findings about this jacket, and our sample sat in the middle — dense and warm, with a pile that recovered after a day under a coat but not the melting softness of premium retail fleece.

What the jacket does deliver is a specific brown, an embroidered chest, and brass hardware that survives a loupe. What it cannot deliver is certainty about long-term colour, because nobody has published a fade report on this item. Buy it for the look, verify the measurements, and keep your expectations of the brown calibrated to daylight rather than to the listing photo.

How we tested
Ordered at $101.49, QC photos compared with the parcel, opened under a 5600K lightbox and photographed again in north daylight. Face, sleeve and ribbing colour compared on one garment; brass pull checked under a loupe; flat measurements taken with a steel tape. Three testers wore it through a working day, one under a wool overcoat.

Sources and notes

Does the brown look the same in daylight as in the photos?

No. In our 5600K lightbox the brown read warm and the panels matched; in north daylight it cooled toward grey and the chest lettering lost some contrast. Expect an approximate match rather than an exact one if pairing it with other browns.

What does the 0.00 kg weight on the listing mean?

It is an unfilled field, not a measurement. For forwarder and volumetric estimates, ask your agent to weigh the actual parcel rather than relying on the listing figure.

Is the chest lettering embroidered or printed?

The listing specifies dense multi-needle machine embroidery, and the raised thread was visible on our sample. That is why the printed-pattern fading report from an older LV fleece does not apply directly, though no fade testing exists for this jacket.
