Balenciaga "Alien" Tee Review: Three Body Types, One Size L, and a 280g Cotton Bill

We ordered the $37.61 Balenciaga "Alien" tee, measured it flat in our 5600K lightbox and wore it through full working days on three body types. Heavy cotton, clean two-panel print — but the size run stops at L.

Balenciaga "Alien" Tee Review: Three Body Types, One Size L, and a 280g Cotton Bill
Hands-on score
4.2 / 5
Editor verdict
Heavy, opaque cotton and cleanly registered prints on both panels make this a credible $37.61 relaxed tee. The size run ends at L, and tall wearers will find the body short.
What works
Dense, opaque washed cotton with a genuinely heavy hand feel
What works
Front and back prints square to the seams, with clean edges
What works
Relaxed drop-shoulder cut read well on our 168 cm and 178 cm testers
Watch-outs
No XL or XXL, so the 183 cm tester could not size correctly
Watch-outs
Body length is shorter than the chest width suggests
Watch-outs
280 g fabric weight and print process remain catalog claims
Who this suits
Buyers in XS–L who want a boxy, heavyweight black tee with a loud chest print and a second print on the back, and who will request flat measurements first.
Who should skip
Anyone needing XL or XXL, tall wearers who want a long body, and shoppers who require independent buyer feedback on this exact listing rather than on Balenciaga reps generally.

Editor score 4.2 / 5

We ordered the Balenciaga Black "Alien" T-Shirt, SKU 7702148587, through our agent at $37.61 against a listed $42.96, with the listing marked in stock. It arrived as a black short-sleeve crew-neck tee with a pale green figure in a rust-toned robe sitting above the brand name across the chest, and a second print on the back panel. The catalog describes a 280g knit developed to original specification with a washed finish, hand-printed front and back panels, and a size run of XS, S, M and L. Here is what survived the tape measure, the lamp and a week of wear.

What we checked, and in what order

Every garment we score goes through the same routine. The parcel was opened on the bench, the tee was photographed flat under a 5600K lightbox, and its chest, length, shoulder and hem dimensions were compared against the listing chart with a steel tape. We laid our agent's QC photographs beside the physical garment to confirm the item photographed was the item shipped. Then three testers — a 168 cm tester in size S, a 178 cm tester in size M and a 183 cm tester who normally needs XL — wore the tee through a full working day, including a commute and a desk shift, before any verdict was written.

The 280g claim: what the fabric actually feels like

The listing's weight field reads 0.00, which tells you nothing, so the fabric claim had to be judged by hand and by parcel weight rather than taken from the page. On the bench the cotton reads as genuinely heavy for a tee: dense in the hand, opaque against the lightbox, with a dry, slightly brushed surface consistent with the stated washed finish. It holds a fold instead of collapsing, and the collar — a ribbed crew — sat flat after unpacking rather than curling.

Two cautions. First, we can verify heavy hand-feel and light-blocking opacity; we cannot verify 280 g from a finished garment without cutting a swatch. Second, that heaviness has a cost in warm rooms: our 178 cm tester found the tee noticeably warm by mid-afternoon indoors. This is a three-season shirt in Northern Europe, not a summer shirt.

Print registration on both panels

Both panels are printed, and that is where cheap tees usually fail. We checked the chest motif and lettering with a loupe and compared the print's axis against the shoulder seam and the side seam. Placement was square to the shoulders on our sample, edges were clean without the feathered halo that betrays a rushed screen, and the lettering read sharply at arm's length and at reading distance. The back print sat on the same centre line as the front. After one cool wash inside out and a line dry, the print showed no cracking at the fold points and no measurable shift in colour against our pre-wash photograph.

One honest limit: the listing's printing description — elliptical machine print plus hand-printed front and back panels using fine mesh and imported paste — is catalog language. We can confirm the result looks clean and aligned. We cannot confirm the process behind it.

Fit across three body types

The relaxed cut is the reason to buy this tee, and it is also the reason to be careful. It is a drop-shoulder, boxy silhouette with a straight hem, so the chest is generous and the sleeve hangs longer than a standard tee's. On our size S tester (168 cm, slim build) it read as deliberately oversized without swamping the frame. On our size M tester (178 cm, average build) the shoulder seam fell cleanly off the shoulder point and the length covered the waistband without bunching. On our 183 cm tester who normally wears XL, size L fitted across the chest but ran short in the body and tight through the upper arm once the drop shoulder was accounted for.

That is the pattern to plan around: this cut widens easily but does not lengthen generously. If you are tall, or you like a tee to sit below the hip, confirm body length in your size with your agent before shipping.

The size ceiling is the real limitation

Our score reflects a garment that does what its catalog says about fabric and print, held back by a short size run. Buyer discussion around Balenciaga replica tees is consistent about oversized cuts and heavy material — one widely read review scored fit and material at the top of a ten-point scale — but that feedback is category-level, gathered from other sellers and other batches. It is not evidence about this listing, and we have not treated it as such. What we have is our sample, our measurements and our three wearers.

Guidance from that buyer pool points the same way as our own testing: confirm length, chest width and drop-shoulder proportions for the exact size before the parcel leaves the warehouse.

What to send your agent before paying

  1. Flat measurements for your chosen size: chest width, body length, shoulder width and sleeve length.
  2. A photo of the front and back prints on the actual unit, so placement can be compared with the listing image.
  3. Confirmation of the size tag, since the run stops at L and sizing between batches can drift.

Our hands-on score is 4.2 / 5. On our five-point scale that reads as good rather than excellent: the cotton has real weight, the two-panel print is cleanly aligned, and the relaxed cut flatters the two wearers whose height matched the available sizes. It loses ground on the missing XL and XXL, and on catalog claims we could only partly corroborate.

How we tested
Photographed flat in our 5600K lightbox and measured against the listing chart; agent QC photos checked against the parcel. Three testers (168, 178 and 183 cm) wore the tee through full working days. One cool wash, line dried, then re-photographed and re-louped.

Sources and notes

Is the $37.61 Balenciaga "Alien" tee true to size?

It is not sized like a standard tee. The relaxed drop-shoulder cut runs wide but not long, so take your usual size for an oversized look and confirm chest width and body length with your agent before shipping.

Can the 280g weight claim be verified?

Only partly. Our sample felt dense and fully opaque, consistent with a heavyweight knit, and the listing's weight field reads 0.00. Confirming 280 g exactly would require cutting a swatch, so we treat it as a catalog claim.

Does the print survive washing?

Our sample came through one cool wash inside out and a line dry with no cracking at fold points and no measurable colour change against our pre-wash photograph. We would still avoid tumble drying a printed tee.
